How to Add WhatsApp to Your Business Website in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, WhatsApp is where business actually happens. Customers ask about prices, check stock, send orders and confirm payments there. Yet many company websites still hide behind a single contact form. Connecting WhatsApp to your website makes it far easier for visitors to become customers.

WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business and the WhatsApp Business Platform

  • WhatsApp Business app: free, for small teams. Adds a business profile, catalogue, quick replies, labels and away messages.
  • WhatsApp Business Platform (API): for larger organisations that need several agents on one number, automated messages, chatbots or integration with CRM and order systems. It is accessed through Meta or an approved provider and messaging costs apply.

Ways to add WhatsApp to your website

1. Click-to-chat buttons

A WhatsApp button links to wa.me/ followed by your number in international format, without the plus sign or spaces, for example 2637XXXXXXXX. You can add a pre-filled message such as “Hi, I’d like a quote for…” so you know where the enquiry came from.

2. A floating chat widget

A small WhatsApp icon in the corner of every page, popular on mobile. Plugins can show different numbers for sales and support, opening hours, and a greeting.

3. WhatsApp ordering from product pages

For shops that are not ready for full online checkout, an “Order on WhatsApp” button can send the product name and price straight into a chat. It is a useful first step, but a proper online shop with payments scales much better.

4. Automated notifications

With the Business Platform, your website can send order confirmations, delivery updates and appointment reminders on WhatsApp, which customers are far more likely to read than email.

Best practices

  • Use the same number everywhere: website, Google Business Profile, Facebook and printed materials.
  • Publish your response hours, and set an away message for after hours.
  • Reply fast. In Zimbabwe, the first business to answer often wins the sale.
  • Use quick replies for prices, delivery areas and payment methods.
  • Track clicks on your WhatsApp buttons in Google Analytics so you know which pages generate chats.
  • Do not send bulk unsolicited messages; it can get your number banned.

Keep a contact form too

Some customers, especially corporate and diaspora clients, prefer email. Offer WhatsApp, a phone number and a short form side by side, and let customers choose.
